So...What's Your Book About?

Okay, y'all. The 2015 ACFW Conference is almost here! But whether you're going or not, today I'm asking the question I hope you've been practicing your answer to:

That's right! My roommates will tell you that I am famous for putting people on the spot with this question so they'll be ready when the agents and editors ask.

Let's hear it! Give us your best elevator pitch. I'll start us off in the comments. Don't be shy!

Her present is held hostage by her past. His, by a family who wants him to fail. Can they find healing to face the future with no reservations?

Or...technically not an elevator pitch, but a less cryptic style of pitch for my first book:

An idealistic college graduate wants nothing more than to create a storybook life for herself. But failed plans lead her back to her small hometown where the awkward encounters with her past are plentiful and the job market is a barren wasteland. She must surrender her life—and love—to God’s plan. Even if it looks nothing like her own.

Ok, here it goes:

Lady Jane Dudley has gone down in history for dying for her faith. What if her death wasn't really hers at all?

identity, and the power of our words. In Tessa, book 1, she is hiding her true identity; Clara Bess, book 2, she is searching for her roots and true identity; Cissy heard untrue words about who she is and speaks a curse - meant for her sister, but falls upon her daughters for generations.

This is why I love this blog. Here goes nothing:

The War Between the States turns three lives upside down; from privileged Margaret Bryant to humble farmer's son Adam Doyle to his rash adventure-seeking older brother Connor. Despite the difference in station, Adam dares to hope for a future with Margaret, a childhood friend, and writes to her from the front. As the war drags on and tragedy strikes at home in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, Margaret finds her heart broken open to a future with Adam. The three bloodiest days of America's history, Gettysburg, tragedy's cruelty threatens to tear two hearts apart--and bring two unlikely allies together.

@Angie - LOVE that! It immediately makes me think. What ifs always make the best stories!

@Robin - Yes! I am a big words person and believer in their significance. Curses, legends, and myths are so intriguing!

@Meghan - Sold! I can't wait to read it some day! <3 <3
