You ever have one of those days (weeks, months) where life
is just one relentless bully, pummeling you with trials? A bit of a downer,
huh? Sure it would be wicked sweet if we were always on top. Good news,
productive days, excess sleep, unexpected blessings, sunshine and sweetness,
peace and quiet. Ahh, yes, can you imagine piling several of those good’uns into
a single day?
But things aren't always so rosy. We get it. We're strong and resilient. And we can appreciate that gorgous vista even more after we've endured a trecherous climb. But then again, there are other times when we find ourselves in the “When it rains, it pours” category. Been
there? There are seasons of life in between those glorious upsweeps where we likely
resemble a drowned rat.
Whether big heartaches and disappoints...or those little
tests that chip away at you a piece at a time.
For me, at this point in my life, I’ve often faced a weeks worth of
frustration in the time it takes to get the kids out of the house and to
preschool Monday morning.
Tantrums, whining, throwing, pushing, and sibling rivalry at
its finest… all before 9 am.
Whew!
Days like these, man… my last nerve is shorn to a nub, my
patience whittles away until it is on par with my ornery lil tots, and each little battle
piles on another pound of irritation until all I want to do is self medicate
with a good book, a creamy cup of Joe, and a big helping of something chocolate
and decadent. Then again, that right there is a setback of its own. Grr!
The point of this highly cathartic rant is that there are
days when you just need a win. Big or small, book contract or free coffee in
the drive thru.
Soooo…. TODAY will be that day for one lucky commenter.
To enter: Leave your email address and a nice soul-cleansing
rant about why you need a win today. I’ll pick my favorite entry to win any
two of these brand new books. So come on… get it off your chest! Let’s
commiserate!

Amy Leigh Simpson writes Romantic Suspense that is heavy on the romance,
unapologetically honest, laced with sass and humor, and full of the
unfathomable Grace of God. She is the completely sleep deprived mama to
two little tow-headed mischief makers, one pretty little princess, and wife to her very own
swoon-worthy hero. Represented by the oh-so-wise and dashing Chip
MacGregor of MacGregor Literary Inc.
Ooooo, I love a good rant! There really is something cleansing about getting it all out. I tend to bottle it up but then after awhile....it's not pretty. ;)
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to hear all the rants!
My rant could go on for awhile, so I'll try and keep it (kind of) short.
ReplyDeleteI need a win because I've been dealing with an ocular migraine since I woke up. I've got a busy day, so I'm going to have to push through. Sigh.
I've got pre-teens who are pushing most buttons known to humankind, especially the disrespect/Ignore MOM button. I'm done.
I haven't had the time I want to write, and the kids will be home in two weeks. For summer.
I guess I can stop there for now. :) There could be more, but I don't want to dwell too long on the rant side of me. :)
Happy Friday Amy!
Oohhh...there's some great books in that pile.
ReplyDeleteJeanne, I get occular migraines so I can sympathize a little. I hope you can find something that helps. For some reason a super hot shower in a dark room seems to relieve it a little for me.
We're just starting the preteen years, have a lot of sympathy.
I need a win because I'm feeling guilty and sad and scared all at the same time. I feel guilty because I'm healthy, my family is well, and I have no big problems to handle. I'm feeling scared because my elderly cat, Prunella, is not well. She is 15+ years old and under the care of the vet. I've spent a fortune on her recently, but that's part of the responsibility of owning a pet. Prunella has been throwing up recently. A lot. Last night she vomited on my very expensive quilt, the part that was folded neatly to the bottom of the bed. I was worried about her, yet extremely annoyed, and that made me feel guilty. I am sad because I know Prunella is reaching the end of her life. She seems healthy enough - meowing and purring and kneading her paws on my lap. Yet she weighs under 7 pounds. I have wonderful vet who practices acupuncture and chiropractic on pets, along with traditional medicine. He takes good care of her. Yet I'm plagued with guilt over being annoyed when she throws up in the house and overcome with sadness to think one day she'll be gone.I am scared because I'm not sure I will be brave and strong when the time comes to say goodbye to my beloved Pruney. My email is joyackley@aol.com. Thanks for letting me get this off my chest.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun post!
ReplyDeleteOkay...here goes:
*My son missed the bus so I had to drive him to school.
*Migraine going on day 10- 2 hospital stops in between for relief.
*I need to edit my manuscript to a fine polish to hit send by Monday- Waaa, I hate editing.
*I'm having a bad hair day...and a bad brain day- Can't think straight, LOL!
*I have a tween with twatitude in the mornings.
*Did I mention my dog left...okay, I don't have a dog..I was just in country song mode.
Fun Post!
Oh Jeanne, migraines are the worst! And pre-teen boys... Whew! I can hardly imagine! Any better than toddler boys? ;) most excellent rant! Hope the Weekend turns around for you!
ReplyDeleteMichelle, Country song mode, eh? Awesome.
ReplyDeleteLove these rants!!!
I'm comin' back later to read some more AND I'll bring the virtual medicine...CHOCOLATE!!
Hot shower... Or better yet hot bath is my go to hideout for headaches. Light a candle and let the stress melt off. Sounds amazing right about now. Anyone wanna come baby sit for an hour?
ReplyDeleteAww, Joyce! How sad! Our hearts bond so inexplicably strongly to our pets. My children are a little bit like animals at this age so I can relate... Especially the guilt when I lose my cool with their repeated rebellions. Praying things get better soon. Hugs!!! And yes, virtual chocolate! Good call, Mary!
ReplyDeleteAhh hahaha! Nice Michelle!!! I could croon out a country song after the night/morning I just had :) oh yeah, and that bad hairday... So there with ya! Mine is perpetuated by the newborn phase. Mama needs some pampering. It's getting rough! So glad you came by! Need your email addy, missy. Your definitely a contender. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Amy. Tonight is our mother-daughter banquet at church. Good times, right? Well, it is supposed to rain and I have very fine and very straight hair. I also have a bum knee. SOooo, at 6; 45, if the weatherman is right, many of my friends may encounter the vision of a drowned rat hobbling into the church! A win of a good book would be wonderful!

Amy, I hate to break the news to you, but it doesn't get easier with tween boys. They, among other things, um, smell more. Just sayin'.
ReplyDeleteOh, and they make lots and LOTS of LOUD noises. :)
Totally, Jeanne.
ReplyDeleteThose armpit farts...still don't know what they think is funny about it.
But when they are in the mood, they can be real nice to mom.
Oh Connie, I also suffer from the frizz out! Especially since Missouri is massively humid! Sounds like a fun night though! Don't tame that mane, be wild and free ;)
ReplyDeleteArmpit farts... Oh yeah, I'm looking forward to THAT phase! :) haha!
ReplyDeleteHaha, armpit farts and stinky feet. Can't wait for those :)
