It is romantic comedy weekend at The Writers Alley and we're curious to hear about some of your favorites. Do you have any romantic comedies you HAVE to watch over and over again? Any that have lingered with you long past their closing scene?
Fess up! Share your favs and see how many people are in the same theater section as you :-)
It is one of the most popular genres produced today - so there HAVE to be some great ones to mention. A few are highlighted in this weekend edition.
So- what's happening at the Alley this Week?
Monday- Pepper takes a spin off of Cindy's EXCELLENT post from Friday and talks about Conference Networking
Tuesday - Sherrinda's talking about Lessons from Karen Witemeyer's Short-Straw Bride
Wednesday - Mary brings her usual wisdom with her post Overwhelmed? Too Busy? (I really need to read this one)
Thursday - Krista brings another one of her fun-filled posts to The Alley.
Friday - Casey's invited 2012 Women of Faith Novel Contest winner, Amy Sorrells, to be our guest today.
And in celebration of the Romantic Comedy, does anyone smell some freshly trimmed pencils? (which movie is that alluding to?)
or...
Have you found your man in black? or do you prefer Spaniards? (guess which movie)
Try this one:
I'll meet you at the top of the Empire State Building on Valentine's Day....with my son.
One more?
"Louis? Oh, throw him in the wash. He'll be grand."

Yay for Romantic Comedies! I love While You Were Sleeping and Return to Me! And I think I know those ones you're alluding to...
You've Got Mail (a bouquet of freshly sharpened pencils - LOVE that movie!)
The Princess Bride
Sleepless in Seattle
Leap Year (such a fun movie with a great setting!)
Sorry if I shouldn't have tried answering all of them - I just couldn't seem to resist! ;)
I also love Kate & Leopold! (Had to add that one to the list!)
~Amber
Of course you should answer them, Amber!
And Kate & Leopold is one of my FAVORITES! Oh wow! Very good!
Rom Com are some of my all-time favorite movies and I'm sure that if Jane Austen were a contemporary - her books woudl have been rom com too :-)
So my faves are The Proposal, Return To Me, The Holiday,Sleepless In Seattle, Fever Pitch, and You've Got Mail...oh, and I have lived My Big Fat Greek Wedding, so don't know if it hits the top ten list since it's oh so close to home! HA!!
While You Were Sleeping
Sleepless in Seattle
You've Got Mail
The Wedding Planner
Ang,
I completely understand...except my was My Big Fat Appalachian Wedding :-)
Oh...I love The Holiday - but I have to admit, The Proposal might have topped it for me.
Not sure yet
Angela,
Oh, I had forgotten about The Wedding Planner
And there is Maid to Order
Sounds like a FABULOUS week!
And when I first saw rom coms, I thought (gasp!) books!
Can you say Weddings by Bella by Janice Thompson? :)
Joanne,
One of my FAV serieses by Janice!
I LOVE her humor!
Great addition.
Sandra Brickner has some funny ones out too.
My favourite is Nottinghill - that had me rolling with laughter. I also love Sleepless in Seattle, The Lake House, Serendipity and many more. What wonderful inspiration for writing!
I agree with Kathleen, The Lake House is great. Of course all my other fabs were said already. Lets see, can I think of one that hasn't been said ..
I've got it...Mr. and Mrs. Smith.
"10"
I love the oldies. I'm a BIG time Audrey Hepburn fan. Sabrina.
"Where have you been all my life?"
"Just over the garage."
Roman Holiday. And Funny Face.
Oh and I almost forgot, my favorite Christmas movies, Christmas in Connecticut and White Christmas.
Oooo, I loved everyone's rom coms! I would add to the list:
What Happens in Vegas
My Best Friend's Wedding
How To Lose A Guy in 10 Days
What Women Want (oldie, but goodie)
Runaway Bride
Life As We Know It
I'm sure I'm missing a bunch!
Some GREAT rom-coms mentioned above!
Here's a sleeper with an incredible cast. Don't know why it didn't get more publicity.
Dan in Real Life
Wonderful story of a widowed father raising 3 girls and an annual family gathering where he is introduced to a wonderful woman - who happens to be his youngest brother's new girlfriend. Steve Carrell, Juliette Binoche, Diane Weist, Dane Cook, just to name a few. Absolutely delightful - even hubby will watch it with me!
Notting Hill
Return to Me
While You Were Sleeping
Win a Date with Tad Hamilton (my fav!)
(and for a little known gem) The Very Thought of You
I LOVE pretty much all the Sandra Bullock and Meg Ryan romantic comedies, and watch them over and over. If I had to pick one of each, it would be MISS CONGENIALITY (Sandra Bullock) and FRENCH KISS (Meg Ryan).
I love the titles everyone else has listed, by the way. :-)
LOL, I have no clue! But I LOVE Return to Me, what a great story. Sigh, now I want to see it again. :)
Ha, I'm from the other side of the world, and While [You] I was sleeping along came this post.
Kathleen,
Really liked Notting Hill. Very sweet! One of my novels uses some of that premise :-)
Mr & Mrs. Smith, Mary!
FUN-NY!
Julia,
I LOVE the old Sabrina movie.
AND Roman HOliday.
Can definitely relate on the 'old movie' "Audrey Hepburn" thing.
Breakfast At Tiffany's...I'm pretty sure it was the model for kisses in the rain :-)
Sherrinda!
How to lose a guy!
Whew.... nice.
yellow dress, hand to his heart.
Man - THAT was a moment.
Becky,
Dan in Real Life is SUCH a heartwarming movie. SWEET! I think it's one of Steve Carrell's BEST performances.
Erynn,
I've not seen a Date with Ted Hamilton. Gonna have to look it up
Elizabeth,
Oooo, I forgot about French Kiss.
Yep...tasty parfait, that one.
And I'm a BIG Sandra Bullock/Meg Ryan fan. They are SUCH relatable characters
Poor Case,
I've stumped ya?!?
Just wait until next weekend.
Costume Dramas, maybe?
Adventures?
Historicals?????
Ah, the list is endless.
