What's Up the Street for Next Week?

GREAT editing handbook!
Our weekend theme is all about EDITS!

The red pen. And finishing goals. And meeting deadlines!

This week I finished my first-round edits for my latest story and boy does it feel good to make that goal!

So, I want to know...what goal have you set for yourself and this week met it? OR if you haven't met it yet, are you pleased with the progress you've made to reach it?

Let me know in the comments and I'll enter your name for a surprise prize pack. :-)

Coming next week...

Pepper is blogging from the Blue Ridge Christian Writer's Conference in the gorgeous Blue Ridge Mountains on Monday!

Sherrinda just got back from a writing retreat (and we are all insanely jealous), but she has ideas (and cheap ones!) for those of us who need to escape with just our laptops. Check in on Tuesday!

Learning about pacing from the books we read, continues in Mary's why readers should read series on Wednesday.

Krista speaks from experience on Thursday! She will be talking Proofreading 101 and how she used it in her coming release Sandwich with a Side of Romance.

Casey is your blog hostess with guest Katie Ganshert on Friday! And we'll have a giveaway, so be sure and stop by.

Sidewalk talk...

The winner of our Monday guest, Naomi Rawlings' debut novel is...Nancy Sullivan! Nancy, Angie has emailed you, so go check your inbox. And thanks to Naomi for her guest post and giveaway!

Hope you have a great weekend, everyone!

  1. Looks like a great week coming up, as usual. And I'm sure digging the topic you found for me. ;)

Okay, I have a question Casey. The Deep and Wide book. I thought it was all about character development. Is it really for editing?

  2. Yes, Deep and Wide is for a great many things, mainly to take your MS...deeper and wider. ;-) I guess I've always looked at those things as editing challenges. Maybe? Maybe not? :)

    Can't wait!

  4. Hi Pepper,

Edits! Good topic. Getting ready to edit two books and trying to decide which to concentrate on. Any advice?

What does your first round of edits consist of?

    Have a great weekend!!

  5. Yes, I'm wondering about the answers to the questions above too. :)
SHERRINDA, I'm just beginning Deep and Wide, and it talks about taking your characters deeper and your plot wider. :) Still in the early stages of it, but I'm excited to see how it will help my story.

CASEY, the questions you asked--I've made some progress, but not as much as I wanted to this past week. I'm working hard to complete my fast draft by the end of the month. Got LOTS of writing to do to accomplish that. Speaking of, my honey has given me a few hours today to...write. So, I'd best get to it.

I'm excited to read this coming week's posts! Thanks, ladies!

  6. Fabulous, indeed! :)

My goal this week was to write 5K and I exceeded that goal by 700 words so I'm happy!

  7. Looking forward to it all!

I'm doing my third round of revisions on my current ms. I want to finish those completely by June 30 (the day I leave for a week-long cruise!). My first goal is to finish tweaking plot elements that need to be changed...and my goal is by tomorrow! Here's hoping I meet it! It may stretch to Monday, but I want those parts "done" so I can start finessing the whole thing with my CP. ;)

  8. I'm afraid I didn't even have a writing goal for my wip this week - it was one of those "survival" weeks with extra events before and after work. That's why I'm looking forward to Sherrinda's post: I could really use a retreat!

I did meet my blogging goal of at least once a week.

  9. My first edits have been a bit different than I expected. Some sections have been cutting and will require rewriting, other parts just needing revising. So my goal seems to change from day to day depending on what is needed. I have about 30 pages left for round 1.

  10. So excited about this week. So jealous of Pepper being at the conference, I so wanted to go. Can't wait to see what's going on with that. :)

I'm thinking I need to invest in Susan May Warren's writing books. Everyone who has read them raves about them. :)

  11. A great week coming up! I attended a writer's conference with guest Susan Meissner. She inspired me and now I am writing again after a week long break.

I'd love to have a chance to escape with just my lap top and WRITE for a whole weekend. Sigh. Someday...

  12. I just got back from the Colorado Christian Writer's Conference - it's like church camp for writer's - I'm in love.
