The Beautiful Story that God Built

Ideas generate from everywhere, but as Christian authors we recognize the true inspiration behind our writing (and more importantly our 'calling') is from God. So, with that in mind, here's a little fun way of looking at the Genesis of story inspired by the children's rhyme - The House That Jack Built.

Here is the story that God built

These are the seeds of inspiration from the beautiful story that God built.

This is the author, with imaginative light, which began from the seeds of inspiration from the beautiful story that God built.

These are the thoughts, all spinning and bright, in the head of the author with imaginative light, which began from the seeds of inspiration from the beautiful story that God built.

These are the words, adverb-scarce and concise, penned from the thoughts all spinning and bright in the head of the author with imaginative light, which began from the seeds of inspiration from the beautiful story that God built

These are the first pages printed seamless and nice, holding thousands of words, adverb-scarce and concise, penned from millions of thoughts all spinning and bright, in the head of the author with imaginative light, which began from the seeds of inspiration from the beautiful story that God built.

These are the revisions, some 200 strong, marked across  every page, printed seamless and nice holding thousands of words, adverb-scarce and concise, penned from millions of thoughts all spinning and bright, in the head of the author with imaginative light, which began from the seeds of inspiration from the beautiful story that God built.

These are the hours, the short and the long, to make the revisions some 200 strong marked across every page, printed seamless and nice holding thousands of words, adverb-scarce and concise, penned from millions of thoughts all spinning and bright, in the head of the author with imaginative light, which began from the seeds of inspiration from the beautiful story that God built.

These are the edits all tattered and torn, that come from the hours, the short and the long,  to make the revisions some 200 strong marked across every page, printed seamless and nice holding thousands of words, adverb-scarce and concise, penned from millions of thoughts all spinning and bright, in the head of the author with imaginative light, which began from the seeds of inspiration from the beautiful story that God built.

This is the author so weary and worn, from making the edits all tattered and torn that come from the hours, the short and the long, to make the revisions some 200 strong marked across every page, printed seamless and nice holding thousands of words, adverb-scarce and concise, penned from millions of thoughts all spinning and bright, in the head of the author with imaginative light, which began from the seeds of inspiration from the beautiful story that God built.

This is the manuscript, submitted in pride from the uncertain author so weary and worn from making the edits all tattered and torn that come from the hours, the short and the long, to make the revisions some 200 strong marked across every page, printed seamless and nice holding thousands of words, adverb-scarce and concise, penned from millions of thoughts all spinning and bright, in the head of the author with imaginative light, which began from the seeds of inspiration from the beautiful story that God built.

The point of my little bit of fun?
"In the beginning was the Word..." John 1:1
That same Word comes to life in us as we begin the creation of story. What an honor! What a blessing!
WHAT a Calling!!!!

May each story He begins in you touch the lives it was meant to touch, even if the only audience who ever reads it is the audience of One!

  2. :-) Thanks, Mary. I think all I should have done is printed the sentences in italics and then added the LOOOONG paragraph how they're all strung together in the end.

  7. Oh thanks, Jules!!! I enjoy reading my stories (just for the fun of it) - so if the audience of One (or me and One) is all I get - then at least I'll have fun :-)

  15. Thanks, Krista! God's love is so big - yet it can someone fit inside our hearts.
His thoughts are so GREAT, yet they can somehow be giftwrapped in a way that our minds can comprehend them.
    What a wonderful thing!

  16. When I taught English, I posted John 1:1 outside my classroom door just to remind us all about the power of words and what that power implicates in handling them. You are right..such a privilege!
