What's Up The Street For Next Week?

If you write something every day you are always moving forward. 500 words a day you will have a 90,000 word novel in a little over 6 months. If you write 100 words every 2 hours you could have those 500 words in a day very easily- 100 words types up fast- especially if you know what you're going to write next.

If you were to write 1,000 words a day you could have a novel written in just a little over 3 months.

Writing a novel isn't daunting, finding the time isn't as hard as you think. The hard part is being willing to plunk thyself in a chair and being willing to let the words flow. You have no excuse for writing a book. Nothing except yourself. Don't stand in your own way anymore.

Hopefully this week on the Alley we will have motivating ideas to jumpstart that new manuscript or a new thought on an old revelation that will turn the corner on your current edits...

Be prepared to be transported around the world as Sarah takes us to Paris in her post, People Watching in Paris. (yes, she does intend to flaunt that trip)

Let It Stew is the topic of Wendy's post on allowing our ideas for the plot and the characters that will fill them "simmer" before launching off. Sounds yummy (and perfect on a cold day :-)

Make 'em baaad. Well not, bad, but certainly not perfect. Cindy has a post on making your characters flawed and quirky in Tall, Dark...and All Wrong

  1. I've recently been worrying about my word count and how long it's going to take me to write my wip and then came up with a great solution, which works with your idea of writing short sections at a time.

I've started writing on my iphone. It's easy, it's always handy and I knock off 500 words at the drop of a hat. The words won't be great, but what will be there is the story. Checking everything else will come with the edits.

To marry it up with my current manuscript I will simply email it to myself and pick it up on my laptop. It's working for me, when I'm feeling it a strain to get my laptop out and work.

  6. I'm not sure yet, Casey. All I heard is that I wouldn't judge any categories that I enter, but I'm not entering this year. So I guess it could be any of them. :)
