Recently, a mailperson delivered a stack of mail here at Writers alley headquarters.
We opened the envelopes and found some addressed to you. Each had hidden words of encouragement. Each asks for your help.
Which letter is yours?
Dear Author,
I'm not feeling well today. I got a miserable code and I can't breaf. I'd like to eat some chicken soup and read a book that will make me laugh. Will you write one for me?
Signed,
Codin Head
Dear Author,
It's the fifth day we've been snowed in. Can't get any reception on the TV. I need an action story to pass the time, preferably in Cancun. Weatherperson says we'll be snowed in for several more days. Could you have it delivered by air?
Signed,
Wanna B Warm
Dear Author,
My flight was cancelled. The airlines announced there'd be room on the next plane--tomorrow. All hotels in the area are booked; I'll have to sleep in the airport. I forgot to pack emergency overnight clothes in my carry-on. I'd like to ready a mystery since I won't be able to sleep--a long one.
Signed,
Tra Pat Airport
Dear Author,
The kids have been fighting all day. Just got them in bed. My wife won't be home from the ladies church retreat for two days. I'd like to read a thriller to pass the long nights.
Signed,
Wishin Shewashome
Dear Author,
I visited my mom in the nursing home the other night. I love spending time with her, but sometimes we run out of things to say. Sure would be nice to read her a book. Mom likes family stories that make her cry and laugh--not at the same time, of course. Perhaps something historical--I mean from when she was young?
Signed, Autta Words
Dear Author,
I'm advancing in my career, quicker than my friends. Being a single adult has its advantages and disadvantages. If I had the cash, I'd go out with my friends every night. Until I find a money tree, I'd like to read a political intrigue series. I'm not easy to be pleased. Surprise me with your best.
Signed,
Paul Itical
Dear Author,
I have a large chair near my fireplace, the perfect setting for reading a book. After the kids settle down in bed, I cuddle up in my chair with a cup of hot chocolate and a Christian romance novel. Unfortunately, I just finished the last book in my stack. I'd like something new with humor and suspense.
Signed,
Roe Mance
Dear Author,
My heart is broken and my Kleenex box empty. I can barely write without drying another tear from this stationery. If only my life were different. I can't bare to go out of the house for fear of seeing--well, I won't burden you with the the details. I'd like to sit in my room and just read a good book. I like a story that shows people can be nice to each other.
Signed,
Neta Cheeringup

Fun post, Mary!!! Write R Block has been knocking on my door a lot lately. I think I need to change my address.
Absolutely encouraging. It hit the spot for me today. Thanks for posting.
Great post ~ very cute and to the point. Thank you for the uplifting words!
Cheers!
I'm so Wanna B Warm. What a cute and fun post!
~ Wendy
Great post, very creative! D. Feat has been creaping ever closer, thanks for the uplifting reminder. :)
Sarah,
You need one of those "do not disturb" signs for your door to keep Mr. and Mrs. Write R Block away...not that there's ever a time they'd be welcome... ;)
Keiki,
So nice to have you stop by today. Hope to see you again in between writing session, of course.
Amanda,
You gotta know this was a family endeaver. I sat one evening in the living room with my family and said "what if"...everyone joind the fun with creating signature names and scenarios. We laughed, and well, a few of the suggestions didn't make the cut. LOL Family members add so much:)
Wendy,
Who couldn't think of those pounding storms in the midwest and east. Wowsers...keep warm:)
Casey,
Save a penny, don't open messages from D Feat. Press D. Lete. :)
LoL
Mine is the letter from Autta Words. I can write that. ;)
My letter would be asking for some good solid historical research...I am at a loss in my wip, and feel like I can't move forward until I know some tidbits from true life! So I guess I'd sign it Aneeda Tidbits. But yes, let's not let the negative get us down!
Angie, I would love to know more about what you are writing. Maybe a brainstorm session would help?
Gia,
Having books to read to seniors would help so many of us link with them. They would identify and we would have conversation starters. Historical fictions wears many hats:)
Love u for this, Mare.
SOOOOO much!
I'm the reader waiting, Pepper:)
Mary,
I hope you have a strong constitution then.
It's gonna be a while :-)
Or at least until I can hire Casey full-time :-)
Very good Mary, very good. ;)
Pep, hire me ANY TIME! I work for brainstorming and a few minutes of solitude for writing. :) Plus it wouldn't hurt to live with another writer. *grin*
Oh, I agree, Casey.
Think of all we'd get done being around ohter writer....then again, think about all we wouldn't because we'd have so much fun brainstorming. I'd be willing to give it a shot. Thats one of the best perks of going to conferences..cozied up with writers...fantastic!
Okay,
Now I"m torn between saving up for ACFW or saving up for Casey a plane ticket to Johnson City, TN.
Hmm.....decisions, decisions
Gia,
If you are truly up for it, I am at a loss...not sure what you write or are familiar with, but I am having a hard time finding material on Lima in the 1500's (about 10-15 years after it was founded) and voyages from S.America to Spain, and Spain for that matter. Can't believe how much of Spanish daily life in those days is not recorded...at least I can't find it. I have been to many European cities and read a lot of historical fiction that takes place in England, so I am thinking I might have to incorporate that somehow. It is fiction, right? ;)
Do you have sure places you go for research?
Ang,
You mean Lima, Peru - right?
Yep. Lima, Peru to Seville, Spain...Lima was founded 10 years before my story begins...
Before or after the big Incan war?
Haha, what a wonderful post. Thanks for the smile on my face. :)
LOVE this!!! *grin*
Thanks Jenn and Krista. So glad you joined our party. The more the merrier.
Such a clever post, Mary.
I'm Rom Ance. Give me my cozy armchair with my legs draped over the side soaking up the heat from the pellet stove while I savor a good romance, and I'm happy.
Angie,
I will look into it today. :) If I find anything, I'll shoot you an email. I write historical fiction but haven't got further back than the 1800's in any of my writing. I usually stick to the 1940's which is my favorite. But, I can spare some time to search some things and see if I can help. Wouldn't want you to stay stuck! ;)
